*From our Student Assistance Counselor: “This week, LCBMS recognizes National Children of Alcoholics Awareness week, which is intended to raise awareness of children affected by parental substance abuse issues. Too often, kids feel confused and helpless, and unaware of how to gain support. Together, we can increase awareness of this hidden problem and the support available. If there is something you would like to discuss in confidence, please reach out to any of the support staff in the building. You are not alone…”
Health Office Information
New York State mandates that all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students attending public school be screened for Scoliosis. Scoliosis is the abnormal curve of the spine, and if left untreated, can cause future health problems. If your child has had a physical exam with their health care provider, and if “Scoliosis” is marked on the exam, this will be acceptable.
Sign-ups for Spring Sports for the Lakeland Central School District will begin in February for high school athletes and in March for middle school athletes. If you would like to play a sport for school, then a current physical exam is required to be on file in the Nurse’s Office. Keep in mind that a physical exam is valid for one year from the date noted on the exam. Vision and hearing results are mandated requirements for sports participation. Should your child need screening, please have him/her check with the Nurse’s Office. Exceptional student athletes interested in a high school Spring sport must see Sharon Sarsen, Athletic Director, as soon as possible for further information. Her contact number is: 914-603-9929. Copper Beech Sports Registration will open on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 and close on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. On February 21, 2018, a link to the Online Registration form will be posted on the district website. Instructions will be provided with this link. All required medical documentation is necessary to process a sports card. If any information is missing, the sports card will be denied and not processed.
On October 26, 2016, 2015, Governor Cuomo signed into law, Chapter 401 of the laws of 2015, which amended New York State (NYS) Public Health Law (PHL) Section 2164, to require children entering or attending 7th and 12th grade, on or after September 1, 2016, to receive an adequate dose or doses of vaccine against Meningococcal Disease, as recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). Students will need this vaccine in order to begin 7th grade in September of 2018. Please contact your health care provider for an appointment and for further details. Once your child has received the vaccine, please be sure to provide the Nurse’s Office with a copy of the immunization.
