Red Ribbon Day Theme:  “LCMBS IS A DRUG FREE SCHOOL”!:  Wear your school colors to celebrate school pride!  Susan Brownbill-Vega will be joining our 8th graders to discuss cyber safety.

There will be a Boys’ Soccer HOME game vs. John Jay CR (Purple) at 4:30 p.m.

There will be Girls’ Soccer practice today, after school, on the back field.  Plan to take the 5:30 bus home.

There will be Field Hockey practice today, after school, on the back field.  Plan to take the 5:30 bus home.

There will be Cross Country practice today, after school, on the back field. Plan to take the 4:30 bus home.

There will be Volleyball practice today (Panas), after school, in Gym A.  Plan to take the 5:30 bus home.

There will be a Roots & Shoots Club interest meeting today, after school, in Room 338.  If you did not attend the interest meeting on October 16th, but would like to join – please attend this meeting.  Plan to take the 4:30 bus home.

Coding Club will meet today, after school, in Room 216.  Plan to take the 4:30 bus home.

Red Ribbon Day Theme:  “DOUBLE UP AGAINST DRUGS”:  “TWIN DAY”!  Team up with a friend or a faculty member against drug and alcohol use by wearing the same outfit!

There will be a Volleyball HOME game Panas vs. Peekskill (Red) at 4:15 p.m.

There will be a Cross Country AWAY meet vs. Peekskill (Depew Park) at 4:30 p.m.

There will be a Boys’ Soccer AWAY game vs. Peekskill (Uriah Hill E.S.) at 4:30 p.m.

Honors Chorus will rehearse this morning at 8:15 a.m. in Room 313.  Our rehearsal time is limited, so please be prompt!

Red Ribbon Day Theme:  “RED DAY”:  Join together to support those affected by drugs and alcohol by wearing RED, and take the pledge at lunch to live drug free!

There will be a Girls’ Soccer AWAY game vs. Poughkeepsie (Turf @ Forbus St., across from H.S.) at 4:45 p.m.

There will be a Boys’ Soccer HOME game vs. Brewster at 4:15 p.m.

Miscellaneous/Upcoming:

-The Dungeons & Dragons Club will be postponed until further notice.  Please see Mr. Dani in 213 for more info.

-The next Student Government meeting will be on October 28th in the Library.  Plan to take the 4:30 bus home.

-Water for South Sudan Club will be meeting again on October 30th in Room 206.  Plan to take the 4:30 bus home.

-Mathcounts will meet again on October 30th, in Room216.  Plan to take the 4:30 bus home.

-Attention Parents:  Please join us here at the middle school on October 29th for the presentation:  “VAPING & OUR KIDS:  The Dangers of E-Cigarettes”.  The presentation will be held in Cafeteria A at the middle school at 6:00 p.m.  The Student Assistance Counselors of Lakeland High School, Walter Panas High School, and Copper Beech, will provide parents and community members with information pertaining to the ongoing vaping epidemic.  Judy Mezey, the Director of Community Based Programs at Student Assistance Services, will present and discuss with parents vaping education, the latest trends and information about adolescent/teen use, and how parents can successfully discuss and address their child’s use/curiosity regarding vaping.  Please join Lakeland in our fight against vaping!  Hope to see you all there.

Phys Ed Info.

-There will be Field Hockey Intramurals for 6th Grade girls in Gym A on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 8:55 a.m., starting Monday, September 9th.  No experience needed.  Equipment will be supplied.  Beginners and experienced 6th grade girls are welcome!

-The Boys’ Soccer Intramurals Program will start on Tuesday, September 17th and run through June 1, 2020.  All boys interested in playing Soccer before school begins are welcome to join!  Tuesdays 8:00 to 9:00 a.m: 7th and 8th grade boys; Thursdays 8:00 to 9:00 a.m: 6th grade boys.  Meet in Gym A.  Please see Coach Tim Hourahan with any questions.

-Boys’ 7th and 8th grade Basketball Intramurals will take place on Wednesday mornings in Gym B at 8:05 a.m. with Coach Stafford.  Intramurals will begin on September 11th and run through December.

-Girls’ 7th and 8th grade Basketball Intramurals will take place on Friday mornings in Gym A at 8:05 a.m. with Coach Stafford.  Intramurals will begin on September 13th and run through December.

Health Office Info.:  As per NYS Education Laws, all 7 Th Grade students must submit a current Physical Exam to the Nurse’s Office. In addition, all 7th grade students will be screened for vision, hearing and only 7 th grade girls will be screened for scoliosis if none was recorded on MD’s exam.

SPORTS:

  • Online 2019 Winter Sports Participation Form Registration (Informed K-12) for High School sports opens on Tuesday October 15, 2019 and closes on Tuesday October 29, 2019 at 3:00 PM.

  • Online 2019 Winter Sports Participation Form Registration (Informed K-12) for Copper Beech Middle School sponsored Sports opens on Tuesday October 22, 2019 and closes on Tuesday November 5, 2019 at 3:00 PM.

  • Parents must access this registration form on the Lakeland Central School District website. Please make sure ALL questions are answered correctly, failure to do so may result in a delay of the sports card being issued. No student may try out for a sport without an approved Sports Card from the Athletic Department.

  • Once you have completed the Sports card, make sure you sign and submit form. You will receive a verification email notifying you of the Sports Card process, please check your emails regularly, in addition check your spam folder as well.

  • Keep in mind, failure to initiate a Sports Card prior to the deadline date may prohibit a student from trying out for a team.

  • Updated Physical exams are required for sports participation; all exams must be dated on or after November 1, 2018 in order to qualify. Should an athlete use any medication for allergies or asthma then a medication order must also be submitted for the student to be able to Self- Carry and self-administer his/her medication. Parents may access Medication Administration Forms on the District Website.

  • High School Sports teams start playing on Monday November 11, 2019 and Middle School teams start playing on Monday November 18, 2019.
