Daniella Ferreira: New York State School Nurse Association Award for Excellence in Nursing

We are very proud to share that Daniella Ferreira is a recipient of the New York State Association of School Nurses Award for Excellence in Nursing. This honor recognizes the efforts of our nursing supervisor throughout this school year and her career. In her nomination form, it was noted by her colleagues that she should be praised for her administrative and clinical skills, and commitment to the profession. Daniella has been with Lakeland Central School District since 2012 and has seamlessly transitioned into the role of nursing supervisor in the midst of the pandemic. Her leadership during this school year has ensured a consistent pandemic response across the district and she has been a reliable, informed, and caring resource for our staff and students. Congratulations Daniella on this well-deserved honor.
Destination Imagination 2022: The District’s Destination Imagination teams were awarded at the New York State Tournament and next week we’ll send four teams to the Global Finals in Kansas City, Missouri! Destination Imagination is a worldwide educational problem-solving program for students that fosters creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Ten Lakeland teams participated in the New York State Tournament at SUNY Broome in Binghamton and were awarded in the Fine Arts, Engineering, Technical, Scientific, and Service Learning categories.
Congratulations to all on their impressive accomplishments! Thank you to all of our team managers for supporting and encouraging our students. Special thanks to our Destination Imagination District Coordinators, Risa D'Amaso and Amy Roth, for their many efforts.

We have been notified by the Town of Cortland Water Department that there will be major construction taking place on Croton Avenue beginning today, April 21, and will continue through the summer. The construction is most likely to cause significant disruption, reducing the roadway to one lane with alternating traffic flow.
Drivers will use alternate routes to the greatest degree possible, but this is a major traverse, and some delays will be unavoidable. The school bus routes most affected by the traffic will be Walter Panas, Lincoln-Titus, and Van Cortlandtville, with residual delays for Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Copper Beech.
Please be assured that drivers will do their very best to maintain timely schedules, but it is necessary for families to plan for delayed pick-up and/or drop-off times until the construction concludes. We understand the inconvenience this may cause for many families and thank you for your patience during this time.
Dear Lakeland Families & Staff,
As you may know, yesterday evening, I was appointed as Superintendent of Schools at the Board of Education Business Meeting. I was able to share my sentiments with those in attendance, and I wanted to extend my gratitude to the entire Lakeland community today.
My experience serving the district over the last six months has greatly reaffirmed my commitment to serving in this role. Thank you for your confidence in me as I move forward in this role.
I am proud of the strides our community has made in just six months. The future is bright for Lakeland, and I am humbled and honored to lead and serve our district. With the restrictions and mandates of the pandemic behind us, we will sharpen our focus on instruction and work to enhance our educational spaces to best engage students. There will always be challenges to overcome, but I am confident that we will continue to grow together to support the needs of all students through collaboration and learning from one another.
To close, I would also like to note that the timing and location of my appointment are especially meaningful, with March being Women’s History Month and the fact that both of my daughters graduated from Lakeland High School. The District has been my professional home for many many years. I share this appointment with everyone who has influenced and supported my journey.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Warm regards,
Dr. Karen Gagliardi
Superintendent of Schools
