5117 School Attendance Areas

Students attending the Lakeland Central School District shall be assigned to the building which serves the school attendance area in which they reside.  Boundaries of these school attendance areas may be adjusted from year to year by the Board of Education in order to provide for distribution of the students among the District’s school buildings in a manner compatible with the facilities, staff and requirements of the District.  A student may be assigned to a building in the District outside the student’s attendance area where:

  1. The Superintendent or designee determines that such an assignment is necessary to the management and control of the educational affairs of the District;
  2. The Board of Education approves the recommendation of the District for such an assignment; or
  3. As may be required by law.

Where the student’s residence within the District has changed to a different attendance area during the school year, the Superintendent or designee, upon written request, shall have the authority to approve the completion of the school year in the school within the original attendance area.  In such cases, transportation to and from school will be the responsibility of the parent.

The Superintendent or designee also has the authority to approve the student’s completion of the school year in the District’s schools in the transition grades (grades 5, 8 and 12).  In such cases, transportation to and from school will be the responsibility of the parent.
