Benjamin Franklin Elementary School

Fifth Grade

In fifth grade students work on a genre-study in science fiction. Students write creative stories correlating to the Microscopic Unit in science. Throughout the year, we will study patterns in spelling and grammar through persuasive, informational, and descriptive writing. Students will also learn strategies for effective public speaking by performing oral presentations such as: symposiums, impromptu speeches, and persuasive arguments in class discussions.

Students will work on their fifth grade integrated SS/ELA curriculum, The Western Hemisphere: Case Studies of Canada, The United States and Latin America. We will continue to study the geography of the Western Hemisphere then move on to the others units of Government, Culture, Economics, and Turning Points.

Fifth Grade Projects

In order to insure that all of our young learners have the same experiences and opportunities to be engaged with 21st century learning, we have developed a number of curriculum projects that integrate existing curriculum with technology.  These projects were developed by teachers in district and regional workshops.
