Here you will find helpful information for your writing part of the regents. There are some vocabulary that can help you.

For the written part of the regents, you will have to write 2 out of three essays.  They should be only about 120 words.  The choices vary each year, but there is always themes like:

journal entry

Formal letter

Informal letter

invitation

Information request

    and ....

The story theme is also always on the regents.  So you will have a choice to create a story about a picture.

Word Count Strategies
1. Start out brainstorming on the topic of the writing. Draw two circles where you write down vocabulary you remember (nouns and adjectives in one, verbs on the other). They will be your word bank.

Ex:       El medio ambiente

Nombres, adjetivos

Verbos

2. Try to answer all WH- questions on your writing:
    What, Who, Where, When, Why

3. Use descriptive words to add meaning to the text.
Instead of “vivo en una casa” “vivo en una casa roja, grande y cómoda”

4. Use cognates (but don´t make up words). Many words are almost the same in both languages. Think of these endings:

-----------tion                       -------------ción   (destrucción,descripción)

----------nce                        --------------ancia  (importancia, paciencia)

-----------ly                          ------------mente (normalmente, rápidamente)

-----------ty                          --------------dad (dignidad, libertad, pubertad)

-----------ist                         -------------ista (artista, realista, analista)
