Study Tips for Every Kind of Student
Successful study of World Languages requires developing and practicing all the skills:
listening, reading, writing, and speaking. It involves extensive building of vocabulary and learning of grammatical structures. It is necessary for students to spend time beyond daily class work, participation, and homework to learn vocabulary. Helpful methods for building vocabulary, for making grammatical structures more automatic, for pronunciation, and for building listening comprehension include, but are not limited to:
1) Make and regularly study flashcards, word lists, and class notes
2) Keep your grammar notes organized by date in a binder and review them daily
3) Make labels in Spanish for items in your living and working spaces
4) Visit useful web sites for practice
5) Practice conversing in Spanish on basic topics with friends, neighbors, class mates, teachers,
6) Listen to radio, songs, TV shows, and movies in Spanish
7) Read labels on products, instructions, children’s books, newspapers, magazines, articles, in Spanish
8) Switch your cell phone and word processing program to “Spanish”
9) Seek out opportunities to learn about Spanish-speaking cultures and/or to practice using the language. (Plays, art exhibits, Spanish Club, trips, software, restaurants, etc,)
