| Students
participated in the enrichment program conducted by "Sam Ladley called
Colonial Life and Artifacts." As part of the 4th grade social studies curriculum students learn about the colonial time period. "Colonial Homes" is an integrated project and an extension of their classroom learning. Students are historians, architects, and researchers who plan, design, and construct authentic period homes. During library class students gather information and apply that knowledge in art class through the construction of colonial homes. Technology will allow them to share and publish their discoveries through digital imaging and text. The culminating activity will be a presentation that will help to strengthen their public speaking and presentation skills. |
|
| Research Websites Each fourth grade class is assigned a style of colonial home. The styles are southern plantation, log cabin, northern salt box, mid-atlantic gambrel roof. The students are divided into four groups to conduct the research using the Internet and printed materials. The four areas of research are: exterior, kitchen, parlor, and bedrooms. The websites and printed materials are introduced in library class and students will gather the majority of information during that time. |
