Colonial Log Cabin
The log cabin had only one room where the family slept, ate, and cooked. The beds and furniture were rough and plain.

In the bedroom area you would find beds and a spinning wheel. The women used the spinning wheel to spin wool into yarn. This type of spinning wheel was called a monster wheel because of its size.

The mattresses were made of straw. Since the cabin was very small they used the space under the bed for storage. Children would share a bed with their siblings.
If the log cabin had a loft, it would be used for
sleeping and storage.

The woolen blankets and fireplace kept them warm in
the winter. In the winter on very cold nights they
slept by the fireplace.
