Construction
|
| After
completing the research each class will begin construction of their colonial
home. Each fourth grade class is assigned a style of colonial home. The
homes are southern plantation, log cabin, northern salt box, mid-atlantic
gambrel roof. The students are divided into four groups to construct their
colonial home. The four areas of research are: exterior, kitchen, parlor,
and bedrooms. Students will use the digital camera to document the construction. |
| Ron Pietruska,
a professional Exhibit Designer, has constructed the basic forms of the
four colonial homes. He constructed them from cardboard with removable
roofs and floors so the students can easily work on the exterior of the
homes and the interior design of the rooms. The models give the students
the experience of working true to scale as professional architects and
interior designers would work. Now the students are ready to complete
the homes' exteriors and interiors. They are responsible to build an authentic
colonial home. |
