Wet Ways To Get Around
Hello! My name is Dinky. I am a little, harmless, yellow ducky. I like going in the water. I also like going on the land. That means I am amphibious. I'm here to tell you about a special kind of vehicle that can also travel on land and water. It's called the DUKW, and it is an amphibious vehicle.

Have you ever wanted to ride in a vehicle that was used in World War II? Well guess what?
You can! It's a vehicle called the DUKW. People pronounce it differently. It is usually pronounced
"duck" or "duke." The DUKW was invented in 1944 to help the army in World War II. Two research teams (The National Defense Research and the Scientific Development) invented it. General Motors was the company that built the DUKWs in their factory in Pontiac, Michigan. 20,000 of them were built during World War II. The letters in the word DUKW were a code that they used to name their vehicles. The D was used as a code for the year 1942, which was the first year they were made.
