Instructions for saving
images from the Internet |
|
You can save an image you find on the Internet as a special kind of graphic that can be used in most computer applications (Word, PowerPoint presentations, web pages, etc.) You should always give credit to the source of the image, just as you would any book or periodical that you use as a reference.
Here is the procedure for saving images from the
Internet:
1. Point and click with your mouse’s right button on the image you wish to save.
2. A menu will appear.
When using Netscape as your browser, one of the choices will be “Save Image As”. Choose that phrase by clicking with the mouse’s left button.
When using Internet Explorer as
your browser, one of the choices will be “Save Picture As”. Choose that phrase by clicking with the
mouse’s left button.
3. You will be prompted to select a saving location. Navigate to the Share Drive, locate and open the folder named “5th Grade”, locate and open the folder named “your teacher’s name”, and finally locate and open the folder named “the wing where the image belongs.”
4. The image file automatically is given a filename. Sometimes the file name is too long or doesn’t make any sense. You can change it by highlighting in the filename box and giving it a new name. The new name must be 8 characters or less and not contain any spaces. Name the file what the image is such as an image of a red car can be named “redcar.” This is very important if you want your images to appear when people are viewing your web page.
5. Click Save.
6. Keep a record of the filename and the URL (web address) from where it was “download.” When you give credit to the source of your image, this is the information you will use.
