I play tennis and I like tennis because it is a very competitive game. To become a good tennis player you have to have a lot of sportsmanship. I am very excited before I play a set of tennis. You have to be very quick.
I encourage all children to play tennis.

In ancient times ball games first started in 1500 BC, which eventually would turn into tennis. The tennis we know today started in France in the 16th century. Some courts were made of grass or clay.

Today, to play the game you need to be able to hit the tennis ball back and forth over the net to your opponent before it hits the ground twice. If the ball hits the ground twice it is called a “dead ball” and the point would go to your opponent. You need to know how to do a forehand stroke and a backhand stroke. A volley is when you are close to the net and you hit a forehand or backhand without letting the ball bounce on the court. You do not swing back like a normal forehand or backhand. You “punch” it with your racket. Every time after you play a game you always have to shake hands with your opponent to show sportsmanship.

Wimbledon is the world’s favorite tennis tournament. William Renshaw won Wimbledon eight times through 1881-1889. No one has beaten that record. In 1937 Wimbledon was broadcasted on the radiofor the first time. Today Wimbledon is still a big hit and many tennis fans come from all over the world to watch the tournament!
