The History Of Derek Jeter
By Danielle S. and Michelle R.
We like to watch Derek Jeter play baseball. We started rooting for the Yankees when our dads and brothers started telling us about the players. One day we were watching the Yankee game on television. Derek Jeter hit a homerun! Then we started to watch the Yankee games. When Derek Jeter is at bat, we glue our eyes to the television! He is our favorite Yankee player.

Derek Jeter was born in Pequannock, New Jersey on June 26, 1974. His mother’s name is Dorothy and his father’s name is Charles. He has a sister named Sharlee. He is the oldest child in his family. When Jeter was four, the family moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan and he graduated high school in 1992. When Jeter was six years old his grandmother introduced him to the New York Yankees Baseball Team. That was when he began rooting for the Yankees.
Immediately, Jeter began dreaming of playing for the "Bronx Bombers." The "Bronx Bombers" is a nickname for the Yankees. Yankee stadium is located in Bronx, New York. Derek looked up to Yankee player, Dave Winfield.

Derek Jeter has won many awards. In 1996 he won American League Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player in two playoff series games, and five-time all-star player. Maybe one day he will be in the Baseball Hall of Fame!
