Sunnyside

On the shore of the Hudson River in Tarrytown, New York, Sunnyside was home to American author, Washington Irving. After living in Europe for sometime, Irving wanted to live in America and in 1832 he returned. Within three years, he established his home at Sunnyside. The property and home cost Irving $1,800. Originally, the house was a small Dutch colonial farmhouse. The home's history interested the young American author. Although Irving never married or had children, he shared Sunnyside with his large extended family. Soon the two-room home became too small to house Irving's brother, Ebenezer and Ebenezer's five daughters.
