Tenements
Most tenement apartments had poor lighting and few or no windows. Apartments usually had two to three rooms; a kitchen, a bedroom and front room or living room. There was no toilet, no shower, and no bath. Many did not have running water in the kitchen. If there was a fireplace in the kitchen, it provided heat to the families. Some tenement apartments had better living conditions.
Tenement apartment in poor condition. Tenement apartment in nice condition.
