Her crown has seven spikes. Each spike represents the seven seas and seven continents of the world.
In her left hand Liberty holds a tablet with the date July 4, 1776 in roman numerals. Do you know why July 4, 1776 was written on her tablet? On July 4, 1776, America claimed independence from England. Her crown has seven spikes. Each spike represents the seven seas and seven continents of the world.
Liberty Enlightening the World
Barthodi named the statue "Liberty". He said she is a symbol of America's freedom. The lamp she holds in her right hand is to welcome people coming to America. She represents "Liberty Enlightening the World."
A pedestal built for the Statue of Liberty to be placed on.

The Statue of Liberty was completed in 1884. The statue had to be taken apart for its trip to America. Two hundred fourteen crates filled with 350 pieces of Lady Liberty were put on a ship that would cross the Atlantic Ocean. A pedestal was built for the statue On Bedloe's Island.
