Settling In NYC

Many immigrants such as the Irish, Italian, Polish, German and Jewish people from Russia made their new homes in New York especially on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. During this time more people from different countries lived in Manhattan than anywhere else. Other immigrants settled throughout America and made their homes in the bigger cities. America seemed so different to most of them; it took them a few years before they felt it was home.

The millions of immigrants from Europe and Asia that came to America changed the country's population forever. No longer was America's population mostly people from northern Europe such as England.
