1. Pretend you are
a factory worker and tell about an average day. If you were a labor
worker during the late 1800s – early 1900s, what was life like?
Write this in a diary form. Get creative and put yourself in their shoes.
2. Imagine
you’re a member of an immigrant family that sailed to the United
States in 1880 on a ship. Write a letter to a friend in your old country
telling what life was like aboard the ship. Use a separate sheet of
paper.
3. Pretend you are
a Native American child around the age of 10 or 11. What would be some
duties you would have to do during the day? What would you do for fun?
What would you wear? What types of food would you eat?
4. Write a letter
to the architect who created the Statue of Liberty. Tell him what the
Statue of Liberty means to you as an American citizen.
