| Egyptian children played
games that children today still play. Some examples were "khuzza lawiizza"
(known to us as leap frog), tug of war, ball games, and wrestling.
The indoor games they played were with dolls and wooden toys. Adults
were wonderful storytellers which kept the children amused.
Egyptian adults were mostly
interested in board games and die. A popular board game was Senet.
Senet represents the fight against death. The painting of the game was
often on interior tomb walls. The challenge of the game was to reach the
kingdom of Osiris, and overcoming evil by avoiding four obstacles in the
way.
The upper class hunted
for pleasure and had chariots races. The lower
class competed against each other in wrestling and archery contests. |
