| The people of Ancient
Egypt treasured family life. Their children meant everything to them
and were considered a blessing. In the lower
classes the mother raised the children. In wealthy and royal
homes slaves assisted in the care taking of the children.
An Egyptian wife and mother
was highly respected in society. A woman's main role was "mistress
of the home". Unlike many ancient cultures, she was equal to men
in numerous ways. She had legal rights, participated in business
ventures, owned land, and represented herself in the courts. |
