Ancient Egypt was one of the world's first civilizations.  It began over 5,000 years ago and lasted for  3,000 years.  Egypt  was known as "the land of many gods".   Egyptian kings were called pharaohs.  They had absolute power over all of Egypt.  They commanded the building of huge pyramids, temples, palaces, and sphinxes that are still standing today.

The Egyptians had a lot of knowledge in all areas.  Their knowledge of farming, math, and keeping track of the days, helped them to develop a calendar.  Numerous contributions were made in the areas of medicine, writing, irrigation, and architecture.
