During
April 7-9, LHS FBLA attended the NYS Leadership Conference
in Ellenville, NY.
Outgoing
New York State Officers are Courtney Ferguson/State
Secretary and Emily Gomez/State Vice Pres. (District
3S). Courtney Ferguson (State Parliamentarian) and
Jackie Rapetti (State Reporter). Only
one student from New York State is can pursue a position
as a national officer. This year NYS is supporting
Courtney Ferguson as candidate for National FBLA Secretary.
Christian
Hall won the Humanitarian Award
which is given to one student in NYS for
leadership and community volunteerism.
Future Level Achievement Award
Patrick Cheung, Emily Gomez, Christian
Hall, Mike Ioannou, Akhil Neti, Nikhil Neti,
Raj Pandya, Ronak Patel, and Jessica
Varghese.

Taylor
Roth & Jason Wright reached the quarterfinals of the National
Debate Coaches Association (NDCA) Championships held at Michigan
State University in East Lansing, MI on April 11-13th. Taylor
and Jason were 5-2 in the preliminary debates with wins against
Canton Central (OH), Damien (CA), Edgemont (NY), Meadows (AZ),
and Tampa Prep (FL). They were defeated in the preliminary debates
by St. Mark’s (TX) and Stratford Academy (GA).
In
the first elimination debate they defeated the Carrollton School
of the Sacred Heart (FL) on a 2-1 decision. In the quarterfinals
they were defeated on a throat-slitting 2-1 decision by Glenbrook
South (IL). They finished 7th of 48 teams.
The
Lakeland District Debate Team from Walter Panas High
School and Lakeland High School captured first place
in the Sweepstakes Competition at the New York State
Championship Tournament heldin Albany 4/4-6. Collectively, the team
finished 17-5 - an award given to the program with the best overall
tournament performance.
The
team of Jason Wright (L) & Taylor Roth(L) won the varsity
division. Jason
was the tournament's best overall
individual speaker and Taylor was the
5th best speaker.
Debate
Team News (March 2008)
Taylor Rother and Jason Wright finished
2nd in a district tournament and qualified to compete in the National
Forensics League (NFL) national tournament. Congratulations!
