Clubs and Activities

Lakeland High School offers a variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for students to participate in. Most activities meet once or twice a week afterschool from 2.30pm to 3.00pm. The following is a list of clubs, their adviser(s) and a brief description of the activity. For more information regarding school activities, please contact the adviser.

Class of 2008

The Class of 2008 plans and implements fundraising, entertainment and activities for the Class of 2008 while promoting leadership and school spirit. All students wanting to have some control in their class are welcome. There are elected and non-elected positions.
Class of 2009
The Class of 2009 plans and implements fundraising, entertainment and activities for the Class of 2009 while promoting leadership and school spirit. There are elected and non-elected positions.
Class of 2010
The Class of 2010 plans and implements fundraising, entertainment and activities for the Class of 2010 while promoting leadership and school spirit. There are elected and non-elected positions.
Class of 2011

The Class of 2011 plans to have several fundraising events this year. Plans include a Penny Social in November as well as an upcoming tag sale. These will enable us to fund ongoing entertainment and other activities for the spirited Class of 2011!
American Red Cross
Helps millions of people around the world while promoting volunteerism and awareness in our daily lives.
Amnesty International
Campaigns for internationally recognized human rights. The Lakeland chapter focuses on mobilizing the student body to reach out through practical means. Amnesty Inernational has assigned LHS the Stop Violence Against Women Campaign. LHS has also been assigned a Belarusian prisoner of conscience, Yuri Bandezhevsky. The goal is to ensure his safety and assist him in obtaining justice.

Debate

Designed to formalize the competitive element of the Lakeland District Debate program, students are expected to meet the schedule of coaching and training session set in a calendar of monthly events.

Meetings and practices are generally scheduled after school, twice each week, depending on the students specific level of experience.
FBLA
FBLA is a nonprofit education association of students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields. Its mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. The Lakeland High School Chapter has competed on the state and national levels with great success. Activities sponsored by FBLA include Donkey Basketball, Data Match and selling items at other school activities.
French Club
The purpose of the French Club is to enrich students' awareness of French culture through movies, cooking, Mardi Gras and Cafe Noel.
Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA)
GSA develops understanding among students through education and helps promote a safe environment for all students.
G.O.
(LHS Student Gov't)
The G.O. is responsible for supervising school-wide activities such as homecoming, elections and blood drives. You must be elected to this position in your Senior year.
Guitar Club
A supportive and harmonious community of guitar and bass players of all levels and styles that meets alternate Thursdays. Students share ideas, songs, and techniques. Emphasis is on improvising and making music together!
Helps build affordable housing for families.
Italian Club
Continue to learn the Italian culture with activities that cannot be completed in class. Activities include games, food, dancing, theater, etc...
Jazz Ensemble
Play jazz music at various concerts and tours
Lakeland Dance Co.
Rehearses dance pieces for the performance of hip-hop, jazz, ballet and other types of dance
Lazos
The purpose of Lazos is to enrich students knowledge of the Hispanic culture and language. Students will participate in community activities, crafts, food and musical performances during the year.
Math Team
Participates in math meets to develop high level thinking skills in mathematics. Score as high as possible on math questions while competing on math tests with students from other schools throughout Westchester and Putnam counties.
Mock Trial
Tournaments provide students with hands-on opportunities to further their understanding of the law, court procedures and our legal system, while honing their speaking, listening, reading and reasoning skills.
Multi-Cultural Club

Andrea DiMichele

Focuses on the history and culture of the many ethnic groups at Lakeland High School. The goal is to provide greater communication and better understanding among students of different ethnic, racial and religious backgrounds.
S.A.D.D
(Students Against Destructive Decisions)


Ms. Jodi Weisberger

A club dedicated toward reducing alcohol related traffic facilities and other destructive decisions that impact the lives of young people.
S.E.A
(Students for Environmental Action)
Students explore their own interests in many environmental issues including, endangered species, pollution and conservation. The club focuses on education, action and fund-raising. Our goal is to educate the community and school on issues that affect us all.
Ski Club
Weekend ski trips to regional mountains.
SOS
A club that works to Support Our Soldiers.
Step Team
Rhythms and beats made with hands and feet. Students participate in competitions and step shows throughout the year.
Sting
Writes and publishes the school's newspaper. All aspects of writing, editing and publishing a newspaper apply.
Talking Heads
Talking Heads is a political discussion group that allows both students and teachers to exchange ideas and opinions freely. The group mainly focuses on politics but it also discusses social, economic and ethical topics. Talking Heads meets every Wednesday at 2:30 in room 211.  
Ultimate Frisbee
Practice drills and games in order to compete with other schools in the area. Ultimate Frisbee is a non contact, fast-paced field sport played with two teams of seven
Weather Club
Teaches students how to read weather maps and data. Students forecast the daily weather and try to understand how weather changes using local weather station data.
Wig N' Whiskers
Resident drama club of Lakeland High School. It is open to students in grades 9-12. It gives opportunity to perform on stage and back stage for both the December and April Productions
Yearbook
Creates and publishes the school's yearbook.
