Health Notice: For a copy of the letter regarding the most recent (May 2) MRSA case at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School, click here. Posted May 2, 2008

Health Notice
: Due to recent publicity about Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), the district wants to reinforce the importance of good hygiene, as well as, communication with your private health care provider. The best way to prevent the spread of any infection is frequent hand washing with warm water and soap, especially after using the bathroom. If your child shows signs of a skin infection, redness, swelling, thick yellow drainage, call your doctor for advice. In another preventative measure, the district has also increased its daily cleaning throughout the buildings including additional cleaning of athletic equipment. Posted April 9, 2008

GROUND BEEF AND GREEN BEANS: You may have heard about problems regarding canned green beans and ground beef that may have been distributed to schools.

GREEN BEANS: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has placed a hold on green beans from the New Era Canning Company. The district has removed and discarded all green bean products received from the affected company.

GROUND BEEF:
The USDA has also placed a hold on commodity ground beef and burger patties that were distributed by Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing Company in Chino, CA while they conduct an investigation.  The district did not receive any raw ground beef from this company. However, our investigation showed that other distributors, which we use, might have processed some meat from Westland. For safety reasons, Lakeland has discarded those beef products as well. As a precautionary measure, the district will temporarily suspend serving all beef products until the USDA clarifies the situation. Posted February 12, 2008
