How to Apply - Classified

How to apply for posted Classified/Non-Instructional Positions:

Step 1—Application:
Individuals seeking employment for posted classified/non instructional positions must submit a cover letter indicating the position applied for, a completed application, and a resume. When the above information and materials are received, applications are placed in the active file for that particular posting. Applications received beyond the posting's closing date cannot be considered. For online applications please go to:  OLAS/Lakeland Central School District

Step 2—Screening:
All applications are reviewed to determine if the applicant meets the credential and civil service requirements for the designated position, including passing competitive examinations and reachable placement on county lists. Lists and applications are then reviewed to determine the most suitable candidates for the current vacancies.

Step 3—Interviews:
Interviews are scheduled for applicants whose qualifications make them the most suitable for the position. Candidates may be interviewed by committee. Finalists’ supervisory references are checked and verified prior to a recommendation for an interview with the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.

Step 4—Appointments:
Appointment to a position is made after a candidate has been cleared by Westchester County Civil Service Commission, has accepted an offer and is contingent upon background clearance by the New York State Department of Education. When an offer of employment is made, a tentative salary placement is determined based on available information from the applicant. Staff is employed by official action of the Lakeland Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent.

Step 5—Orientation:
New hires meet with Department of Human Resources staff to review district policies and complete relevant employment paperwork. Mandatory compliance training follows.
