Lakeland's Board of Education is comprised of nine school district residents who are elected by voters to three-year terms in the annual election each spring.
The deadline for Board of Education candidates to submit petitions is Monday, April 17, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. The annual budget vote will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Van Cortlandtville Elementary School, Route 6, Mohegan Lake from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Terms are staggered so that three members are elected each year. Board members serve without compensation.
Board members attend at least two public meetings each month along with committee meetings and various school-related activities. At the annual organizational meeting in July, the Board elects a president and vice-president.
Minimum qualifications to be a Board of Education trustee include: qualified voter in the district; reside in the district for a minimum of one year; and be able to read and write.
