The transcript of the sending school of the transfer student will be used to determine course designation and weight.

3. Where a course has been repeated and passed, the passing grade will calculate into the student’s grade point average, and the prior failed grade will be recorded as an ‘F’.

4. Where a Regents exam has been repeated, only the highest score will be reflected on the student transcript and calculated into the final average for the course.

5.  Pass/fail grades or audits are not factored into the grade point average, but they will appear on the transcript.

Transfer Students:

In order to be eligible to be the sole class valedictorian or salutatorian, the student must have attended one of the high schools in the Lakeland School District for two years. The grades of that student must have been awarded by Lakeland teachers for 8 marking periods.

If a transfer student earns marks from Lakeland teachers for fewer than 8 marking periods and earns a GPA that is equal to or higher than that of the designated valedictorian and/or salutatorian, the student will be designated as a co-valedictorian or co-salutatorian.

This requirement becomes effective September 1, 2001 for students transferring into the Lakeland high schools on or after that date.

Criteria for Weighting:

1. All courses that are designated as honors and/or qualify for an academic articulation agreement with a college or university will be weighted at the honors level.

2. All courses that conclude with an Advanced Placement examination administered by the Educational Testing Service will be weighted as Advanced Placement.

Weighting refers to additional value added to Honors and Advanced Placement courses in the cumulative GPA calculation (not in the course final average).

Weighting factors will be assigned as follows:

    • Honors courses = Plus 4 points to the final average
    • Advanced Placement Courses = 5 points to the final average

An updated list of available AP and Honors level courses is made available to students and parents each year through the high school program of studies.
