8210 Election of Board of Education Officers/Administration of Oath

The President and Vice-President of the Board of Education shall be elected by members of the Board of Education at the annual organization meeting in July.

The Clerk, who shall act as temporary chairperson, shall call the meeting to order. The Clerk shall administer the oath of office to new members of the Board of Education (including those re-elected to office).

The Board of Education shall proceed to the election of a President by nomination and vote. The Board shall then elect a Vice-President by nomination and vote. The election of Board officers shall be by a majority vote of the entire Board of Education. The Clerk shall administer the oath of office to the newly elected officers of the Board of Education, at which time the President shall take the chair.

Duties of the President

The duties of the President of the Board of Education shall include the following:

  1. To preside at all meetings;

  2. To be official spokesperson for the Board;

  3. To act as chief fiscal officer of the School District for purposes of issuance of obligations;

  4. To execute all documents on behalf of the Board;

  5. To appoint all advisory committees;

  6. To act as an ex-officio member of all committees;

  7. To call special meetings, in his/her discretion (he or she considers necessary) or on request of one member of the Board of Education;

  8. To vote together with other members of the Board of Education;

  9. To perform the usual and ordinary duties of the office;

  10. To, along with other members, offer resolutions and to discuss questions.

Duties of the Vice-President

The Vice-President shall be authorized to act for the President in case of the President’s absence or inability to act, within statutory limitations.

In the event of a vacancy in the office of President, the Vice President shall act as President until a President is elected by the Board of Education.

In the event of the absence or disability of the President and Vice President, the powers and duties of the President shall devolve upon a chairman pro tem, duly elected by a quorum present at a Board meeting.
