| The New York State Standards are incorporated into our study of communities in Second Grade. The children explore the theme of "My Community and Other United States Communities." During the year the students explore rural, urban, and suburban communites in the United States. The students locate places on maps and globes to see how different communities are influenced by georgraphic and environmental factors. We also learn about the rights and responsibilites of citizens in their communities. We begin the school year by taking a look at the family, our first community. We then consider the community that is developing in our own classroom and school. The students then branch out and learn about the community and world they live in. | |
