Read
to your child.
Talk
to your child about items of interest you have seen in the newspaper.
Read
poetry to your child and assist your child in memorizing it.
Allow
your child to help prepare a dish for dinner by reading and following a
recipe.
Reading
directions for making things such as models develops a sense of purpose
for the act of reading.
Be sure to help your child select books s/he can read. These should
be easy enough so that your child knows 99% of the words without
your help.
Put
your child's name on a mailing lists. If mail comes in your child's
name, s/he will be more likely to try to read it.
Don't
compare your child with other children in the family. Remeber s/he
is a unique individual with specific likes, and disabilities.
