During first grade we will be introducing geometry and fractions.  The students will be responsible for identifying fractions and solids.  They will also be familiarized with symmetry, fold lines and faces.  Below is a list of lessons, vocabulary words and literature that will be used in chapter 5.

Below are some useful sites. Apple Pie Slicing: Students slice a pie in various ways to see how many pieces result. Includes printable activity sheet. Fraction Shapes: A Pattern Block Activity - Students explore geometric models of fractions, and discover relationships among them. Lessons with printable worksheets guide learning. Geometric Coloring Sheet - A reproducible full of repeated, symmetrical patterns of triangles and squares. Symmetry Surprise - Students use finger paints and paper to learn about symmetry.
