Did You Know?If you went to Guiding Eyes for the Blind you would see dots on the cages. Those dots stand for what the dogs eat. Whether it is on a diet, sick, or has a problem eating certain foods, the dots will tell the person feeding the dogs what to give them. The people who work there clean the kennels daily. Do you know what kinds of dogs they use? If you guessed Black Labs, Golden Retrievers, and Shepherds you are right! If you were blind and received a dog you would have to hold the harness and leash if you were on a street. The dogs think they are on duty only when you hold the leash and harness. There are some dogs that help people with disabilities other than blindness. If you need a dog and you cannot travel to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, the trainer and the dog will come to your house and train the dog there. Think for a second – if you were blind, how would you type on the computer? The computer for the blind will read back (state aloud) what you write. Those were some of the things that I learned from taking a field trip to Guiding Eyes for the Blind. I hope you learned something too!
