Crickets: Nature's
Thermometers
Did you know that a cricket
can be your every day thermometer? Best of all, you don't have to buy
one to know the temperature. Here's how:
Gather the following materials:
- A cricket
- A piece of paper
- A calculator and/or stopwatch
Now do the following:
- Start your stopwatch and
start counting the number of chirps the cricket makes in 15 seconds
- Write down the number of
chirps that you get
- Add that number to 40
- That number should be pretty
close to the actual temperature!
Get a thermometer and check
to see if this is true.
