Do you know what Guiding Eyes for the Blind is?
Guiding Eyes is a program that trains a regular dog to be a dog (guide dog) that can guide people that are blind.
In the kennel we saw dogs that were being trained to become guide dogs. The dogs are mostly labrador retrievers and are very friendly. They licked all of us a lot.
There are many things that can help blind people. Braille is one of them. Braille is a different kind of writing that is made up of raised dots on paper. The blind person reads with his or her fingertips, feeling the letters rather than seeing them.
There are also talking computers!
We saw over 75 dogs! Most of them thought we were coming to see them and them only. The kennel was filled with loud barks!!
We had fun, and we hope to come again.
