Tosca is a German shepherd.
She looks like your neighbor's pet, but she doesn't play around! She works
in the War on Terrorism. After September 11th, dogs have been helping
humans a great deal.
Beginning on January 18, 2002,
the United States government is making sure that all luggage at airports
is checked for explosives. Since there was not a large supply of bomb-detection
machines, dogs like Tosca are depended upon to help find explosives.
In March 2002, there were 190
dogs in 40 airports. The government wants to increase the number of dogs
from 190 to 315 in 81 airports by 2003. This will help insure the safety
of our skies from terrorist attacks.
