A Cry For Help

by Jeanne Betancourt

A Cry for Help is about a family who has a baby. They name the baby Stacey. The family also had a cat named Midnight. He is a people cat. He follows everyone especially the one who holds the baby Stacey.

Midnight is the most important character in the story. He saved Stacey's life. It all happened when Stacey had a cold when she was six months old. Her mom brought Stacey right to the doctor. The doctor said, "Put a dehumidifier in Stacey's room, It will help her breathe." And so there was a dehumidifier in Stacey's room. Just to make sure she was safe, they put a baby monitor in her room right by the crib.

Now the mother was relaxing on the couch when Midnight came into the living room. She thought he would relax with her. But no - he was scratching and meowing. The mother shooed him away. Then she heard him scratching around the baby monitor. She ran into Stacey's room and saw that Stacey's skin was blue. She rushed Stacey to the emergency room. The doctors helped Stacey to breathe and said, "You got here in the nick of time."

Then Stacey's mom thought about why Midnight was scratching. Then she thought about him scratching near the baby monitor. He did that because Stacey couldn't breathe.

Midnight is a hero. Stacey and Midnight grew up together. When Stacey was ten Midnight was twelve and that is pretty old for a cat. Sometimes Midnight follows Stacey around.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes animals.
