Diploma/Graduation Requirements
As the State of New York and Lakeland Alternative High School move in the direction of an all-Regents High School, graduation requirements will be phased in gradually until they are fully implemented for those students entering grade nine in 2001 (Class of 2005). Until this time, each graduating class (Classes of 2001-2004) will be faced with varying and increasingly demanding requirements for graduation. Specifically, each of these classes will have decreasing opportunities to use Regents Competency Tests (RCTs) and increasing mandates to pass Regents Examinations to satisfy requirements for a diploma. The safety net for special education students, will continue through the graduating class of 2008. Special education students are required to take subject area regents exams, prior to taking a Regents Competency Tests (RCTs).
While we strongly encourage as many of you as possible to pursue a program leading to a Regents diploma, two types of diplomas, the Regents and the Local, will continue to be granted by Lakeland Alternative High School up through the graduating class of 2008. The Regents diploma requires 22 units in Regents level course work; a Local diploma requires 22 units. Minimum requirements for either diploma includes the completion of core requirements, sequence requirements and competency test requirements that will vary by class.
Academic Support - Grades 10 - 12
The Interdisciplinary Lab is required of all students who have failed the Regents examination, Regents Competency Test, or need assistance in a specific subject. Students will meet on a regular basis in small groups for the purpose of receiving intensive individualized instruction in preparation for retaking either test at the next available testing date.
