Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Welcome to the beautiful fall month of November. Thank you for your wonderful support for the 3rd annual Trunk or Treat event. It was exciting to see all the children gather educational items and some candy too! Fall Festival was a hit! From square dancing to the haunted house the PTA put on an outstanding event!

As the end of the first quarter approaches on the 10th, we recognize all the hard work your children have done. Please continue to support your child at home with homework and reading. Parent conferences are being scheduled on the 14th. Students will be released at 11:30 a.m. on that day. Look for the “VC News” which will be published and sent home by November 10th. Report cards are scheduled to go home on November 17th Each grade level will spotlight events curriculum information and school highlights.

Our Site Based Team is working on new goals this year and welcome your ideas. We will be continuing with our “Lunch Options” program. We are looking for alternate ideas for recess when the weather is inclement. “Make a Friend Mondays” is a hit and we look forward to continuing to promote this opportunity during lunch. We also will be finishing our map project and looking at a mural project in the building. The project would be highlighting a display meaningful to our student. Finally, we will again be focusing on Character Education as a large building initiative; all students have been challenged to promote excellent citizenship.

The fifth grade is diligently preparing for the New York State Social Studies Assessment, which will be held on the November 15th and 16th.

Once again we are seeking parent volunteers for two areas: the Reading Room or at our new Greeter Station. If you would like to come on board, please contact Mrs. Castro in the office.

We anticipate an excellent month of teaching and learning. On the 21st of November we are looking forward to sharing a snack together. Students and staff will come into the halls to enjoy a special Thanksgiving snack. Class parents will be asked to help organize the snacks for their classes (more info. to follow). The VanCortlandtville team wishes everyone an upcoming Happy Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Jacqueline Figueroa
