June 1, 2006
Dear
Parents/Guardians and Students,
It’s June and the end of the school year and
summer baseball have arrived. At VC, we’re getting really close
to home plate and scoring the final run. Van Cortlandtville has scored
many runs this year. Our Destination Imagination team, Van Cort All
Starz, has moved on to the national finals in Tennessee, our “Spring
into Reading” read-a-thon was a great success with students
doubling their independent reading goal, and our Fifth Grade students
graduating from the D.A.R.E. program.
Van Cortlandtville Elementary School’s performance on the 2005
New York State Assessments has been reported in the State Education
Department Report Card. Overall, Van Cortlandtville continues to
improve its performance. The chart indicates the number of the students
who meet or exceed the standards in core subject areas. This information
will also be reviewed in detail at the PTA meeting on June 5th at
7:30 p.m. Please join us.
English Language Arts 84%
Mathematics 94%
Science 97%
The State Education Department Report Card for Van Cortlandtville
is now available for review on-line. From the Lakeland Website (www.lakelandschools.org),
click the icon, “About Our District,” in the top section
of the home page to activate the pull down menu. Then click on “NYS
Report Card.” You can also obtain a paper copy in the main
office. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
This month we look forward to the Spring Concert at 7:00 p.m. on
June 1st, Science Enrichment activities, and Fifth Grade Moving-Up
Ceremony. Please be reminded that we will have an 11:15 a.m. dismissal
on the 21st and 22nd; on the last day, June 23rd, we will dismiss
at 9:30 a.m. Supply lists will go home with the report card and quarterly
newsletter (this information can also be found on the district’s
Website). Teacher assignments for the 2006-07 school year will be
mailed home after the middle of August.
Van Cortlandtville is a great place where we all work together as a team to provide
the best education for every child. Have a wonderful summer vacation!
Very truly yours,
Jacqueline
