| On
January 17th, the fifth grade took part in their Annual Governmental
Tea. This year the students took on the personas of historical governmental
figures ranging from George Washington to Dwight D. Eisenhower. Some students
also portrayed current governmental figures such as Barack Obama and Condoleezza
Rice. It was an experience that these students will never forget. Our honored
guests this year included State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef, County Legislator
George Oros, Town of Cortlandt Supervisor Linda Puglisi, Cortlandt Councilman
John E. Sloan, Peekskill Mayor Mary Foster, City of Peekskill Councilwoman
and fellow Lakeland teacher Pat Riley and finally State Senator Vincent
Leibell. Lakeland Superintendent Ken Connolly along with Assistant Superintendents
Dr. Lois Favre, Ray Morningstar, Dr. David Fritz, Linda Brandon, James
Van Develde, and Tammy Cosgrove were also in attendance. Finally, Liz Kogler
also attended and represented the Lakeland Board of Education. Everyone
who attended enjoyed the experience, a cup of tea and some butter cookies
as they conversed with the many historical American figures that were there.
We are all very grateful to the students for their hard work, the PTA and
parent volunteers who assisted us with this event. |
