How voting works

Voting is how we make a choice. We can vote to see which book the class will read together. Or we can vote to elect someone to public office, such as the mayor of our town.

Voting for any candidate for political office is the right of our adult citizens. However, women did not have the right to vote until 1920! You must be registered to vote in our country. When you turn 18 or if you move to a new place, you should register to vote. This gives you the privilege of going somewhere near your home and being able to vote there on a day that has been designated.

Senators are elected by the whole state.

Representatives for Congress can only be voted on by those people who live in their congressional district.

All registered voters in the United States can vote for president.
