Program Goals:

  • To meet all New York State requirements for attaining a home-school high school diploma.

  • To comply with student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP).

  • To provide a half-day of academic instruction to include:
        a. courses of basic study; i.e. English, History, Math, Science, Health, and         Foreign Language
        b. physical education, electives; i.e. Art, Human Relations, Community         Service, Social Issues
  •  To provide a half-day of services which can include one of the following:
        a. BOCES Technical School
        b. Home high school for additional courses
        c. Work experience program for high school credit
        d. To provide a five and one-half academic instructional day to ninth graders
  • To provide related services through professional staff in the following areas:
        a. psychological testing, assessment, and counseling
        b. speech and language testing, assessment and remediation
        c. supportive services provided by guidance staff
        d. other related services as determined by CSE recommendations.

To ensure participation in all regular educational and extra-curricular activities when appropriate.

The Lakeland Alternative High School’s philosophy encourages all staff to initiate and maintain relationships with students in an effort to continually be apprised of student needs, and to evaluate the progress of each student.  This is monitored by weekly team meetings, supervisor and teacher meetings, and special CSE reviews.
