In the project, students draw a mask design of their choice, using art room and web resources for inspiration, explained Mrs. Halim.
Once they have a design, students make a plaster mask on a friend and then switch, so each student has a mask of his/her own face.
Parent volunteers are always present for this part of the project to be sure students are comfortable and using the plaster properly.

Once each student has a basic mask, they add on any details with additional plaster, oaktag (heavy paper), and/or celluclay,
which is an instant papier-mache.  When all additional pieces are added to the masks, students draw on outlines and finish with
acrylic paints. This making a plaster mask on another person concept is thanks to Barbara Petersen of the Lakeland Children's Center.
