Length of Lesson: 4-5 periods

Teacher Suggestions

Before the activity:
Go through the Internet resources to make sure that all links are working.
Prepare "family cards" with appropriate roles and different family names. Students may select their family "at random" or may choose partners. If students are assigned "at random," it might be helpful to color-code the family roles for males and females.
Prepare folders for each family to save their "photos." Prepare a class set of handouts.

During the activity:
Have class/group discussion after each step in the process. This will help students organize their thoughts and check for understanding.
Circulate to be sure all group members are working appropriately. Students should not be "surfing" aimlessly.
Plan for absentees! Students may be added to a group late and complete the "research" while group members are working on the scrapbook. Students may complete the scrapbook during free time (or after school).

After the activity:
Students love to share their Power Point presentations. Select exceptional scrapbooks to present in class, or organize a showcase where students can share in the computer lab as a round-robin. (Each person at a different viewing station)
Invite parents or community members to share their travel photos of France.
Allez, viens!, the textbook my district uses, has a variety of activities relating to Spain. Check the Holt, Rinehart, Winston website.
