Introduction

In this Webquest you will be evaluating several different websites.

These websites will all cover the same subject but they will not be alike in any other way.  You will evaluate the sites on...

Their Authority, Who's site is it?
Content and Scope, What is there?
Purpose or viewpoint, Why does it exist?
Reputation, Is it cited anywhere? Who links to it?.

Finally, if you were writing a research paper, would you use this source, why or why not?

The Task

Now you need to be a critical thinker.  When visiting these websites think about the content, and focus.  What does the site try to do?  Does it present the information in a neutral way or, does it give you your opinion, neatly packaged and provided for you.  Using the website evaluation guide provided, review the websites and rank them according to usefulness and content.

Keep and Bear Arms
Sane Guns
Ohio Coaltion Against Gun Violence.com
Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence .org
Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence
Guncite
GunLaws, GunControl & Gun Rights
Violence Policy Center

The Process

Each student in the group should complete his/her own chart for each of the sites.

As you examine each site, record any relevant information in your chart.

Each group should select a recorder to take notes on group discussion and a discussion leader, whose job it will be to make sure each member gets a chance to contribute and to lead the group toward reaching a consensus about the list.

Be prepared to discuss/compare your group's findings with the rest of the class during the class discussion period.

Evaluation

You will be evaluated on your group work, your completed organizer, and your participation in large group discussion using this rubric. Make sure your group is able to defend its position in the discussion about the sites.

Conclusion

You will find yourself using the Internet for information. The Internet is only one of a variety of information options. Remember that journals, books, videos and other sources are available as well. Evaluating information is a skill you will be using throughout your lifetime.
