Course Outline/ Information for students

I.                    Course Title:  Course A Math Honors

 

II.                  Course Description:  The principal strand of this course is algebra.  The algebra will extend to factorable quadratic equations and systems of equations, while integrating with graphing,

simple geometry, and statistics.  The students will take the eighth grade state assessment in March and also will be required to take the Math A Regents examination, which will be given in January of the second year of this program.

 

III.               Course Goals:  Prepare students for the New York State Math 8 Assessment.  Start to prepare students for the New York State Math A Regents in January of their freshman year at the high school.

VII.             Class Preparation:  Students are to come to class prepared with their notebooks, calculators, writing utensils, homework and all other materials required by teacher.  Students are to arrive on time and be ready to learn.

 

VIII.           Homework Policy:  The completion of homework is a very important part of establishing good and consistent study habits.  Homework provides the practice that is needed to be successful in mathematics.

 

a.       Homework must be turned in on time.  If a student is absent, all missed notes, assignments and tests must be made up as soon as possible.

b.       If steps are required to obtain the solution to a problem, they must be written out neatly.

c.        All homework assignments should be written out in the students’ school assignment planner.

 

IX.               Extra Help Policy:  Extra help is always available at various times before or after school. 

 

X.                  Grading Policy:  The following items will be considered in determining the grade for each quarter:

·         quizzes

·         classwork ( preparation, attitude, participation)

·         homework

·         project

 

XI.               Classroom Behavior Expectations:  Classroom Behavior Expectations:  Classroom rules are based on three principles:  courtesy, cooperation, and mutual respect.  No student has the right to disrupt the learning of others.

a.       Arrive on time to class and be ready to learn.

b.       Raise your hand if you have a question or comment.  Please do not speak when someone else is speaking in the room.

c.        Do not bring food or gum to class.

d.       Do not leave your seat unless directed to do so.

e.        Be kind to your peers.

f.        Please push your chair in when you leave the room.
