ACADEMIC INTERVENTION SERVICES (AIS)

GRADES  7/8  MATH

 

INSTRUCTORS:  MR.  CIOTTI,  MR.  MASTERSON

 

      PURPOSE:   THE AIS MATH CLASS IS NOT INTENDED TO BE A

                            SECOND MATH CLASS IMPOSING ADDITIONAL

                            RESPONSIBILITIES ON THE STUDENT.  WE VIEW THIS

                            TIME AS AN EXTENSION OF THE REGULAR MATH PROGRAM.

                            THIS CLASS WILL ASSIST STUDENTS IN UNDERSTANDING

                            AND REINFORCING WHAT IS TAUGHT BY THEIR ASSIGNED

                            MATH TEACHER THEREBY ATTEMPTING TO LESSEN SOME

                            STRESS AND ANXIETY THAT MATH PRESENTS TO MANY

                            YOUNGSTERS.  WITH THIS IN MIND, WE HOPE ALL OUR

                            STUDENTS TAKE  THIS PROGRAM AS SERIOUSLY AS IT IS

                            INTENDED.

 

OBJECTIVES:  1.  ASSIST STUDENTS TO ACHIEVE A GREATER DEGREE OF                            

                                SUCCESS IN THEIR ASSIGNED MATH CLASS.

2.      HELP STUDENTS MAINTAIN AND STRENGTHEN

BASIC MATH SKILLS IN CONCEPTS, COMPUTATION,

AND PROBLEM SOLVING.

                           3.  PROVIDE ADDITIONAL PRACTICE IN PREPARING FOR THE

      STATE EXAMS DURING THE WEEK OF MARCH 13-17,  2006.

 

     GRADING:         SATISFACTORY/UNSATISFACTORY

                                 HOMEWORK IS NOT ASSIGNED IN THIS CLASS.

                                 THERE ARE NO TESTS OR EXAMS.  THERE WILL BE SHORT

                                 QUIZZES TO HELP DETERMINE A STUDENT’S PROGRESS.

 

EXTRA HELP:        AVAILABLE BY APPOINTMENT  WITH YOUR INSTRUCTOR.

 

SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS: ARE COOPERATIVE & DO THEIR ASSIGNED WORK.

                                                ASK QUESTIONS IF THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND.

                                                BEHAVE APPROPRIATELY.

 

STUDENTS WHO CONDUCT THEMSELVES IN A MANNER THAT INTERFERES WITH LEARNING WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE.  THEIR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR WILL BE DOCUMENTED AND CONSEQUENCES ASSIGNED.  PARENTS/GUARDIANS WILL RECEIVE A COPY OF THE DOCUMENTATION.  REPEATED OFFENSES MAY RESULT IN SUSPENSIONS.
