Atlapedia
A great resource for finding full color physical and political maps as well as key facts and statistics on countries of the world.
 Culture Quest World Tour
Join the Internet Public Library's Virtual Tour to either Canada, Mexico or the USA.
 CIA Factbook
A searchable database of information about all countries. Includes maps, culture, geography, history, economics and more. A good "first place" for gaining an overview of a country.
Scholastic Immigration: Stories of Yesterday & Today
Find out what it means to come to the United States as an immigrant from the early 20th century through the early 21st century.
United Nations CyberSchoolbus
This site is designed to be a global teaching and learning project and there is lots here to explore. The curriculum guide on the right has a section, "Cities of the World" that is quite comprehensive and deals with issues such as urban expansion and the consequences of urbanization.

Fast facts readily available with the click of a mouse, with hyperlinks to other places for elaboration on specific topics. Good for doing an overview of a particular country (includes photos, maps and more)
Teaching with Historic Places
From the National Parks Service, this site contains lessons, documents and resources and uses historic places to explore American history. There is a searchable database; browsing by theme will probably result in the best "fit."
Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection
This is a wonderful collection of maps from the University of Texas at Austin.
Canada
Virtual Museum of Canada
This site spotlights Canadian museums and their exhibits. Especially useful will be the VMC exhibits containing many multimedia files and the "Fun and Games" section. Be sure to visit the Teachers' Center.
CanadaInfo
Over 400 pages of information about Canada: government, history, facts, people, security, geography, provinces, symbols, and more. A well-organized and comprehensive site.
The Atlas of Canada
A very extensive site provides a huge assortment of maps of Canada. There are lesson plans and a curriculum guide. Especially useful may be the section, "Territorial Evolution" that includes over a dozen maps of Canada from 1867 to 1999.

From the Canadian government, this site has links about society, government, land and economy.
Ontario: The Premier's Kid Zone
Maintained by the government of Ontario, this kid-friendly site has information about the history of Ontario and contains some virtual tours and online activties.

A website that accompanies the PBS series examining contempory life along the US-Mexico border.

La Ciudad
Based on the PBS series about recently arrived Latin Americans as they struggle to build their lives, their communities and their dreams in their new home, the city.

At present, 101 countries and regions are covered." Not covered: Canada, US, United Kingdom. Good for study of Latin America.
