"Monster Madness" is designed to encourage the development of reading, writing, and critical thinking skills while integrating technology into the classroom curriculum. It is modeled after a collaborative project, "The Monster Exchange" and was adapted to suit the goals of the district.

In this lesson, students will listen to a variety of monster stories through shared reading and/or read alouds. After the readings, the students will create and draw one class monster. Then, through a shared writing, the students will develop one description of the class monster, using the template on the teacher page.

This description will be electronically delivered (e-mail) to the partner class in the Lakeland District. The drawing will be sent via interoffice mail. After receiving the description, it will be read with the class and each child will draw a monster based on the description.

Once the drawings are complete, students will compare and contrast their drawing to the original. Classes will then send their drawings to their partner class, via interoffice mail. The original description and drawing will be posted to the project website along with several examples from the partner class.

See Teacher Page for step by step directions.
