Independent Assignment

In this extended version of this project you will choose a work of fiction (See Book List) and then learn about how authors use their personal experiences to create settings, characters, and/or events.

You will visit several websites that contain biographical information and transcripts of interviews with authors. Then you will write an essay to answer the question, "How are authors' real life connections reflected in their fictional writings?" Your essays may be published on the project website.

Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to communicate with other students who have also read fiction by the same author to compare your conclusions.
